Mayan Art
Much of the Mayan art was expressed in jade or jadeite: statuettes, vases and pendants like the ones shown in this picture were considered pieces of high value.
The Mayan art developed in a spectacular way during the late Classic period (600-800 AD).
There are beautiful illustrations showing various forms of Mayan representations of power, authority and death.
Mayas used different mediums: manuscripts, drawings, wall paintings vases, figurines and jade jewelery to express their artistic capabilities.
